As we kept researched about digital city, it turned out that digital city was more unhygienic than we expected. We focused on how and what kind of information are delivered to people nowadays, and this was dominantly processed through internet, especially on phones. It’s been just over a decade since modern day format of smartphone, the first iPhone showed up and current digital life style has been constructed. The development and spread of internet not only made it easy to face information but also increased percentage of facing incorrect, false, and unreliable informations. From this, we began to think about system that can support people by filtering these unhygienic information.
The outcome of the thoughts is the DHR; Digital Hygiene rating. DHR rates not only the informations’ hygiene quality but the platform’s overall hygiene level. This system enable people to filter out unhygienic digital cityscapes and services by rating city’s elements in categories like Anonymity, Addictiveness, Dependency and more aspects that can be considered to be standards.
After designing Digital Hygiene Rating, I could relate the idea to Fashion industry.
In fact, many people are unintentionally ignorant to how pollutive the clothings they consume are.
According to a research that it won’t be able for humans to live on Earth anymore if we do not reduce Co2 emission to half in 10 years, and with the fact that fashion industry is one of the most pollutive industry nowadays, I decided to merge the idea of DHR to suggest a better ethic and system to Fashion industry.
I suggest “Fashion Hygiene Rating” which is development of digital hygiene and modern day’s sustainable certification. It rates whether clothings are hygienic or unhygienic to our environment. The rating’s design intuitively shows various standards and the hygiene quality of the clothings. With the standards, fashion hygiene quality will be rated and it will let consumers understand how the clothings affected environment in production, consume, practical use, disposal and recycle processes.
In concept of this project, Fashion Hygiene Rating’s attachment will be compulsory to every clothings produced all around the world. Also, hopefully, we can imagine people purchasing highly rated products rather than lower ones or make them feel ethically guilty when wear low rated products so they can consider highly rate ones on next purchase. We can also imagine government’s regulation on supplementary fashion allowances according to Fashion Hygiene Rating affecting consumers choice.
